Bertolli
Bertolli, formerly part of Unilever, has become independent. This included a new multilingual website aimed at consumers. The website’s main goal was to create brand awareness around the Bertolli brand and its products. This was accompanied by new branding developed for packaging and other materials. This new branding then served as the starting point for our design process.



Recipe database
Central to the website is a recipe database. This is searchable for end users and is ideally suited for finding inspiration. You can easily search by specific ingredients, dietary preferences and, of course, specific Bertolli products.
Individual recipes can additionally be easily shared on social media or via WhatsApp.

Products database
Linked to the recipe database, we set up a products database. The advantage of this is that we were able to link both databases within WordPress. This allows recipes to be linked to products, and vice versa.
Then the recipe pages automatically display the relevant products, and all products then display recipes that include these products. This makes the CMS scalable, with new recipes or products, new links can easily be made. In addition, a product or recipe will automatically disappear from all pages if links are broken or modified again.

Multiple languages and regions
Bertolli operates in several countries, and also has a different product range for each region. This required a well thought-out strategy in terms of multilingualism. In this case, we chose to set each language-region combination as a language in WPML. Then the website was configured to only show products in language-region combinations for which content was explicitly placed. This way it is possible to have a different assortment per region, without working with multiple WordPress environments.

Giving international visitors a hand
Finally, we created a functionality that compares the active language of a visitor with the location. If this does not match you get a notification that kindly helps you move in the right direction.
Results
Bertolli commissioned us to create a website where brand experience is central. Visitors from different countries can easily find recipes and products to make delicious Italian dishes.
